The following is from Pruitt, Glasgow Land Fraud Papers 1783-1800, North Carolina Revolutionary War Bounty Land in Tennessee:

[The following are in General Assembly Session Records 1801 in various folders.]

      481. Petition of Wynn Dixon (of Caswell Co) : he asks that "steps be taken" to dismiss a charge (in Hillsborough Dist. Superior Court) of fraudulently assigning warrants to Revolutionary War soldiers; he claims he followed his "patriotic" father during the war and defended him with "sword" when needed; after the war, it was a "common" practice of officers to buy soldiers' warrants and make assignments, when the soldier couldn't write; at the end of the war Dixon was "young and inexperienced" and 16 or 17 years old; he bought some soldiers' warrants; he is accused of assigning two warrants to himself and signing the soldiers' names to the assignments about 15 or 16 years ago; Dixon doesn't remember if he made the assignments or not, because his memory has been "obliterated" by time; Dixon claims the assignments were made n "fair contract" and no soldier has complained about the assignments. The Committee, to whom this petition was referred, recommended dismissal of the indictment; [mentioned in Delamar transcripts as being in Legislative Papers 181; mentioned in NCGS Journal vol. 1 (3) p. 152 (1975); petition not found in Session Records 1801, but it still may be there somewhere]

      673. Jun. 10, 1800 Indictment of Wynn Dixon, planter (of Caswell Co.): On Apr. 23, 1785 a warrant for 1,000 ac was issued by the Secretary of State to William Hayse, sergeant. On Dec. 26, 1784 (in Caswell Co.) Dixon forged an assignment by Hayse to Dixon. On May 24, 1785 Dixon assigned the warrant to James Allen. On Jul. 15, 1785 Allen assigned the warrant to Eusibious Bushnell and William Dobbins. On Dec. 5, 1785 a survey was made on S side of Cumberland R and on Hickmans Cr; the land borders: NW corner of Hickman's upper line of his survey No. 1646. On Sept. 15, 1787 a grant issued to Eusibious Bushnell and William Dobbins. [signed Ed Jones, Solicitor General; witness "Secretary of State" [William White] and Saml Purviance; "a true bill" [signed] P Henderson; charged and plead not guilty.
