Jun 23, 2009 - 03:54:12 pm CDT (The Caswell Messenger) - Margaret Moore Senter, 86, of Raleigh died on Friday June 5, 2009 with her family by her side. She was born on September 21, 1922 in Milton, NC to the late Margaret Pittman Moore and John Warner Moore. After graduating from Archibald Murphy High School, she attended Louisburg College and Hardbarger's Business School. She was a charter member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and financial secretary of St. Michael's for many years. She had a passion and talent for painting and maintained a studio at ArtSpace in downtown Raleigh, NC for 22 years.
Margaret Senter is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Pearce Senter; daughter Patricia Senter Williams and husband Steve; daughter Carol Senter Evans and husband Wayne; four grandchildren, Margaret Leigh Williams and Curtis Steven Williams; John Scott Evans and James Senter Evans; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her daughter Margaret "Midge" Moore Senter, sister; Carolyn Thomas; brothers, Warner Moore, Julian Moore and William Moore.
Services were held June 7, 2009 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Margaret's name to: St. Michael's Episcopal Church Building Fund, Canterbury Road.

My grandmother, Margaret Pittman, moved to to Milton about 1900 when her widowed mother married Henry Hatcher, a Milton tobacconist. She was about 14 years old. She told me that there were wonderful dances down in Liberty Warehouse on Saturday nights. Many people would attend on horseback and buggy’s, as well as on foot by the locals.
