Knoxville, TN: Colleen "Coby" Lassiter Flynt, age 87, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was born in Moncure, North Carolina on June 23, 1929. Colleen spent most of her resplendent life in Blanch, Graham, and Burlington, North Carolina. Later in life, she moved to Knoxville to be with her daughter. Colleen was a sweet, strong and special lady. Coby, as her friends and family called her, opened her heart to everyone she met and always saw the good in people. She was kind, compassionate and generous to a fault - often giving when she didn't have it to give. Coby delighted in sending "just the right card" - never missing a birthday, holiday or a note to say "hello." Colleen was always impeccably dressed and coiffed, and took the bouffant hairdo to new heights. Extremely industrious and creative, she believed in "making do" with what you have.
Coby took pleasure in the little things - sunshine, hummingbirds, dogwood trees and BLT's. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially the many dogs and cats that looked to her for comfort, petting and especially treats. Colleen enjoyed volunteering, working and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. She had an exceptional sense of humor and a sweet smile on her face, even at the end. Despite her diminutive stature, she loomed large in our lives and we will miss her terribly.All of us that knew her as mom, sister, aunt, granny, Colleen or Coby will feel the loss for many years to come.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James F. Flynt; sister, Christine Lassiter Lehr; and brothers, Patrick and Kenneth Lassiter. Colleen is survived by her son, William Neil Flynt; daughter, Jimi Leigh Flynt; and brother, Richard Lassiter. The family gives her recent caretakers and guardian angels their greatest gratitude, especially Monte Jones, Marion Groover, George Barber, Rocket, Dr. David Seale, Dr. Bruce Allsop and Peggy Harris.
A celebration of Colleen's life will be held soon in Blanch, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, consider making a memorial donation to your local animal shelter. Arrangements by Cremation Options, Inc. Published in Knoxville News Sentinel on Dec. 11, 2016.
