    • On February 4, 2017, our beloved husband, father, brother, Pastor, friend, and an "Obedient man of God," Reverend Reginald Mitchell passed peacefully from this life to be with the Lord. To many he was known as "Reggie." He had a smile that could light a room, a laugh that was contagious, a voice that commanded attention, and a hug filled with warmth and affection. He walked, talked and lived the way God guided him and made sure his family walked the same way. Born March 23, 1952 to the late Reverend Hunter Lee and Christine Dixon Mitchell in Caswell County, North Carolina, Reginald Mitchell was the fifth child of seven children raised in a loving Christ-centered home. He was nurtured to excel academically and spiritually, the latter being extremely important as his parents recognized that his innate inquisitiveness and independent spirit were all part of God's plan. Baptized at the age of 12 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Semora, North Carolina, he was a member of the youth choir and attended Sunday School regularly. His leadership abilities were evident as early as high school through his involvement in social activism and student government.

In 1970, Reginald graduated from the Caswell County public schools. An outstanding student, he was awarded the Morehead Scholarship, a full four-year scholarship, to the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, he then went on to earn a Master of Business Administration degree at UNC as a Consortium of Graduate Minority Education (COGME) Fellow. In graduate school, he joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. More importantly, during this time, he rededicated his life to Christ and was filled with the Holy Spirit. While attending a church conference with his father, he received his calling from the Lord to the ministry.

Reverend Mitchell will forever be cherished by his wife of 30 years, Delores Johnson; son, Cyrus and daughter, Victoria; five siblings - Hervolene Mitchell of Philadelphia, PA; Zelodis Mitchell (Ellen Faye) of Mills River, NC; Vera Foster (James) of Cooper City, FL; Brenda Mitchell of Durham, NC; Roderick Mitchell (Monica) of Vienna, Virginia; two sister-in-laws, Jean Mitchell of Winston-Salem, NC; and Gladys Whitten (Donald) of Lubbock, TX; loving aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins, god children, along with countless friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ who are forever blessed to know him.

A viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday from 1pm-2pm prior to funeral service. Funeral Services for Reverend Reginald Mitchell will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 2pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, 2645 Cunningham Rd, Semora, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
