Sep 09, 2010 - 04:45:55 pm CDT: Roy Lee Smith, age 68, formerly of Caswell County passed away on Monday, September 8, 2010 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. Roy Lee was born in Caswell County, NC on January 24, 1942 the second son born to Albert Lee and Carrie Paschal Smith. He was of the Baptist faith. Roy Lee proudly served his country in the U.S. Army completing three tours of duty in Vietnam before returning to Fort Bragg, N.C. and left the Army on August 6, 1976 after 13 years of active duty. He was self-employed in the drywall business until his retirement in 2004 when he relocated from Auburndale, Florida to Arrington, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna Seacrist Smith, of the home, daughters Emily Kesler (Mark), Ramona Dodd (John), and Teresa Maynard (Burton), 8 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are brothers Charlie Smith and William Smith of Yanceyville, Paul Smith of Providence, and two sisters; Margaret Williams and Bettie McDuffie (Neal) of Yanceyville. He was pre-deceased by his parents, a son Roy Lee Smith, Jr., and sister Catherine. A memorial service with military honors is incomplete at this time but will be conducted by Rev. John D. Crews.
