Jesse Weimar Siler
Born June 29th 1838
Died Nov. 9th 1862

Friendship had no brighter ornament;
filial duty no more truthful example;
affection no more zealous devotee;
patriotism no braver model;
chivalry no more hightoned advocate;
scorning a mean action,
he was the soul of honor and his generosity was liberal to a fault.

Among the first to volunteer in Co. H 16th N.C.T.; he was elected Junior Second Lieutenant of Co. K 1st N.C. Cavalry. Where he won the esteem and confidence of his comrades and men by his noble daring and undaunted courage. In a skirmish near Gaines Cross Roads in Va., he paid the lavish forfeit of his life.
