      _______________

The following is from Patillo, Pattillo, Pattullo and Pittillo Families, Melba C. Crosse (1972) at 130:

Unknown Pattillo m. Elizabeth Unknown before 1800.

Mrs. Elizabeth Pattilloe m. (2) Roderick Bigelow in Warren Co., N.C. Marriage bond dated 20 Nov. 1811. Bondsman: Joel Terrell, Jr. [Note the possibility that Roderick Bigelow had been married before.]

Roderick Bigelow was among the inhabitants of Nansemond and Isle of Wight Cos., Va., who filed a petition for the formation of a new county stating they suffered inconvenience from their remote situation some forty miles from the Court House and having two ferries to cross. (Va. Geneal., J. F. Dorman, Vol. 6, No. 3, p. 106).

Roderick Bigelow moved to Warren Co., N.C., and our first record of him in that county is 16 Dec. 1799. He was administrator of the estate of Mary Moseley in 1808 and was listed under Taxables for the Sixpound Dist., Warren Co., N.C., from 1811 through 1814. He moved his family to Caswell Co., N.C., sometime before 1819.
      _______________

He wrote his will 5 June 1819 and it was probated in Caswell Co., N.C., at the Oct. Court 1819. He devised his estate to his wife, Elizabeth, and her last three Patillo children. To his wife . . . "lend her my land for her natural life . . . after her death to be divided between her three last Patillo children." Children named were daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, and son Thomas Patillo. Roderick named "his son, Thomas Patillo, alias Bigelow" as his executor. Witnesses to this will were Thomas Turner and James Graves. (WB "H", p. 184).

Thomas Turner had married Sarah, widow of William Pattillo (Augustine), in Warren Co., N.C., and they were living in Caswell Co., N.C.

Elizaret Bigelow, Wm. Florence and Helena Person were witnesses to the will of Zachariah Pattillo in Caswell Co., N.C., in 1824.

Thomas Patillo assumed his step-father's surname. He studied law and practiced his profession in Caswell Co., N.C., as Thomas Bigelow until his death. He handled all of the legal affairs of Mary L. Pattillo of that county.

Thomas Bigelow was living alone when he was enumerated on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses of Caswell Co., N.C. He gave his age as 55 on the 1850 census and as 68 on the 1870 census. The latter year would make the year of his birth around 1802.

Priscilla Patillo was enumerated on the 1810 census of Warren Co., N.C. at age 45 and over. Line untraced.

      Hi Rod,
Do you have any info on Roderick Bigelow, who lived in Warren County , N.C.? He married Elizabeth Pattilloe on 20 Nov 1811. I believe his son Deloney/Delaney born abt 1815 is my gr,gr,gr grandfather. see Deloney is listed on the S.C. census 1860 as being 45 years old and married to Margaret (McClellan) age 26. He is listed as a school teacher and born in N.C. Is this Roderick (12956) the son of Elisha (1295) the same Roderick of Warren County, N.C. There is also a will for Roderick Bigelow, 1819, in Caswell County N.C. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Muril Hanna
