DANVILLE, Va. Virginia Theo Walker Poteat, 96, formerly of Park Springs Road, Caswell County, peacefully went home to bewith her Lord on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Hospice of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Elder David Underwood officiating. The family will receivefriends one hour prior to the service.
She was born to the late Thomas Moten and Carrie Loftis Walker on February 5, 1922, in Caswell County, she was the last of her generation. On November 22, 1941, she married Louis Edward Poteat Sr. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and attended Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church. Along with her parents, shewas preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Louis Edward Poteat Sr; son, Thomas Wade Poteat Sr.; brothers,Samuel, Woodrow, Miller, Stanford, Ray, and Ashley; and sisters, Gladys, Naomi, Linnie, Pricie, and Carrie Lee. She issurvived by her children, Edward Poteat Jr.( Kathy), Fern Ross, and Julian Poteat (Carol); grandchildren, Kim Cockran (Kenny), Kelly Green, Tommy Poteat (Jill), Stacey Hamlett (Houston), Lauren Lunsford (Luke), Shay Clark (Steven), and Myra Goad (Mac); brother-in-law, Houston Poteat; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren, and a large extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC27275. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hospice for their compassion, professionalism andcare of their beloved mother and grandmother.
