- John Williams, known as "John Williams of Mountpelier", b. 4 Mar 1731, Hanover Co., Va. d. 10 Oct. 1779. Buried at cemetery, Montpelier, NC. On 12 Nov 1759, married Agnes Bullock of Granville Co., NC . Not content with his trade in Carpentry, he became a crown attorney. In 1768 he served as deputy attorney general. He donated portions of his land for the creation of Williamsboro, North Carolina. He was a co-founder of the University of North Carolina. He served as a delegate to the Provincial Congress of 1775, a member of the Continental Congress, North Carolina Supreme Court Judge. [Congressional biography]. Source: Williams Family Website
