My Great-Great-Grandfather, John I. Satterfield received a land grant of one-hundred fifty acres of land from Lord Carteret, Earl of Granville on January 9, 1761 and settled in a part of Orange County, North carolina, now Person County.
He and his wife, Lucy, were the parents of three daughters: Mary who married John Cothran; Sarah, who married John Yarbrough; and Rachel, who married Matthew Daniel. His five sons were: Isaac, Jesse, John, William, and James Satterfield. John and William migrated to Tennessee and Kentucky while young men.
A bond found in Caswell County, North Carolina (formerly Orange County) dated September 10, 1777 was issued to John Payne, Robert Payne, and John Satterfield for the sum of thirty pounds, licensing them to establish an ordinary at Paynes Tavern in 1777. John Satterfield died in 1802 and was buried in the family cemetery on the farm near Antioch Church in Person County.
