- It would seem reasonable to assume that the widow Sarah Unknown Jouett did not marry John Edmunds Brown until some time after the death of her first husband, Matthew Jouett. Matthew Jouett wrote his will 9 September 1779, and it was proved during the September session of the Caswell County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions (which ran for the three-month period September-November). Some claim, but without supporting documentation, that the marriage occurred in 1782. However, here we will show that the marriage took place after c.1779.

Whitlow, Editor (1985) at 326 (Article #406 "Matthew Jouett II" by Elizabeth Anthony Faller) states that after 1782 the widow Sarah Jouett married her second husband, John Brown. It is believed that person was the John Edmunds Brown shown here, but further corroborating evidence is required.
