- Nancy Fowlkes Patterson (1923-2008)
Oct 14, 2008 - 08:41:53 pm CDT Cumming, GA (The Caswell Messenger) - Mrs. Nancy Fowlkes Patterson, age 85, of 750 Spring Valley Drive, Cumming Georgia, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at her residence, following several years of declining health. Nancy was born in Caswell County to the late Robert Fowlkes and Nancy Williamson Martin, one of ten children. A graduate of Bartlett-Yancey High School and Elon College, she was married in Locust Hill Church on Christmas Eve 1945. She and her husband, Edwin resided in Alexandria, Virginia and Richmond, Virginia for many years, but lived in Danville from 1993 to 1996. Nancy was employed as an elementary school teacher and taught approximately 1000 children over the course of her thirty-year career. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Rebecca Fowlkes Stanfield, Elizabeth Fowlkes White, Francis Fowlkes Smith and Mary Siddle Turner and three brothers, Robert Fowlkes, John Fowlkes and Charles Fowlkes. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Patterson Richardson, of Midlothian, Va. a son Sean Patterson, of Cumming, Ga.; bothers Richard Fowlkes of Yanceyville, N.C. and Doug Fowlkes of Blanch, N.C.; four grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Saturday October 11, 2008 at Locust Hill United Methodist Church, 8488 N.C. Highway 150, Reidsville, N.C. The family received friends at the church at 1:00 p.m.; Rev. Karen Angel officiated, with interment following in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made as donations to the Locust Hill United Methodist Church, 8488 N.C. Highway 150, Reidsville, N.C. 27320. Roper Funeral Home of Jasper, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements.
