  • Notes
    • Name also seen as Lennie.

The deed giving Levi Cobb Page the land on Rattlesnake Creek in 1841 showed that he was a sibling of the other pages (Zenith, Azariah, Benjamin, Samuel, et al). The deed speaks of transferring the land to Levi Cobb Page, in addition to providing a home for the then single sisters, also for the care he gave to William Page in his declining years. The will specifically says “our father William Page.” I may have been assuming that the “our father” part was inclusive. The will also states that the land in question was the land that William Page lived on and died on.

When George Levi Page’s house burned (and he was killed) in 1978, a great deal of the Page family history was destroyed. Fortunately, the original deeds from John Scott to William Page, Jr., and the one from some of the children of William Page, Jr, to Levi Cobb Page were in the possession of Lennie Myrtle Myers Chandler (obtained from her mother Rosa Catherine Manly Myers), and they passed to a descendant.

The last Caswell County “poor house,” the Caswell County Home, was on the County Home Road and adjoins a farm owned by William Carlton Chandler and his sister Susanne Chandler. Originally the land from behind the school bus garage on the south side and cornering on the Murray road on the north side all the way to the Page farm was owned by the Manly family. Molly Manly Page (wife of Dorus Page, her first cousin) inherited the western part of the tract all the way to the current Chandler Road. The land east of Chandler Road was left to Molly’s sister, Rosa Catherine Manly Myers, who in turn left it to Lennie Myrtle Myers Chandler (wife of Clyde Thomas Chandler). The tract north of Rosa’s land was left to Louisa Page and bought by Clyde Thomas Chandler after his marriage in 1918.

Known by the family as “Aunt Lou” [Louisa Page] she lived in her later life in a cabin where Clyde and Lennie Chandler moved after their marriage. Gilbert Carlton Chandler was born in that cabin. It was torn down and Thomas Yancey Chandler built his house on the site.
