William J. Allen came to North Carolina with construction of the Southern Railway (from Franklin, Virginia, to Danville, Virginia). Moved to Caswell County around 1894 and settled in the Blanche community

William J. Allen Family
William J. Allen is a descendant of Joseph Watson Allen, b. 10/21/1825-5/26/1898 and Letitia Ann McDearmon, b. 12-27-1827 - 4-3-1910 who lived in Prince Edward County, Virginia. William J. Allen was born 6-9-1849 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He came to North Carolina with construction of the Southern Railway. He married Kate Walters, b 3-9-1859 and they lived in Mount Airy, North Carolina. There were three children born to this union; Walters J. Allen, b5-12-1890, Katherine Allen, b 6-29-1893 and Berkley Felix Allen, b. 4-9-1895. Walters J. Allen and Katherine Allen were born in Mount Airy, North Carolina. William and Kate moved to Caswell County around 1894 and settled in Blanch, NC. Berkley Felix Allen was born in Blanch. They remained in Blanch for the rest of their lives. William died 5-6-1922 and Kate died 5-3-1950. Walters J. Allen volunteered for service in the army during World War I and served overseas in France from 9-5-1917 until 5-20-1919. After his return to the United States, he married Mary Lillian Grubbs and they settled in Farmville, Virginia. They had one son, William James Allen, b. 7-1-1932. William married Rochette Webb Allen, b. 7-31-1936. They had two sons, William Glenn Allen, b. 10-12-61 and Sidney Jerome Allen b. 5-23-65. They reside in Farmville, Virginia.
Katherine Allen married Herman A. Smith, b. 10-23-1894. They settled in Blanch, N.C. There were three children born to this union; Aliene Smith, b. 2-23-1920, H. Paul Smith, b. 8-13-1922 and William A. Smith, b. 12-25-1928. Aliene married (1) Fielding Walker (2) William Coleman - they had no children. Paul married Mary Sue Shotwell and they had three children, Bonnie Gale, b. 6-12-1949, Barry Keith, b. 8-24-49; and Dennis Paul, b. 10-26-1955. Bonnie married John A. Crispin and they live in California. Barry married Claudia Vernon and they have two children, Bartlett Vernon Smith, b. 4-30-1978 and Matthew Carson Smith, b. 4-1-1980. William married Martha Ann Edwards and they have two children, Anthony Wayne Smith, b. 10-2-1952 and Steven Ray Smith, b. 6-18-1954. Anthony (Tony) married Kathy Dale Steele and they have two children, Kristie Michele Smith, b. 6-25-1976 and Kellie Renee Smith b. 5-17-1979. Steven married Debbie Radford and they have one child, Allen Radford Smith, b. 10-1-1982. Aliene and William Coleman live in Danville, Virginia. Paul and William live in Caswell County. Katherine Allen Smith died 7-18-1960 and Herman A. Smith died 11-23-1950.
Berkley Felix Allen married Ismer Vanhook, b. 12-18-1901. They lived in Blanch where Berkley owned and operated a garage and country store. There were two children born to this union: Felix Walters Allen, b. 2-24-1923 (died 7-14-79) and Martha Elizabeth Allen, b. 11-9-1924. Felix married Katherine Wilkinson and they had two children, Philip Walters Allen, b. 8-13-1946 and Clair Michael Allen, b. 7-4-1951. Phillip married Susan B. Moore who had two children, Drake Moore, b. 6-16-1967 and Jason Moore, b. 5-1-1969. Michael married Sarah Branch Bishop. They have no children. Phillip lives in Caswell County and Michael lives in Wake County. Martha Elizabeth Allen married Patrick D. Lassiter, and they had three children, Shirley Ann Lassiter b. 10-28-1948,. and Stewart Allen Lassiter, b 11-11-1951,. Susan Patricia Lassiter, b. 10-13-1955. Shirley married James Winstead - they have no children, Stewart Allen married Carmen Yvonne Boyette, b. 8-26-1953. They have no children. Shirley and James live in Caswell County and Stewart Allen lives in Wake County. Susan lives in Caswell County. Ismer Allen died 2-23-1953. Berkley Allen died 11-06-1959.
