Owned and operated Aldridge Grocery on the Square in Yanceyville, Caswell County, North Carolina.
Cotton Williams and Earl Watlington bought the grocery business from my uncle Gene Aldridge, thus the name W&W Grocery until Mr. Watlington bought out Cotton. Yanceyville-Samuel Eugene Aldridge, 82, of 2779 US Highway 158 West, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center following a long period of declining health.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, 7-8:30pm, at Harrelson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Funeral services will Be Thursday, October 9, 2:00pm at Prospect United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Grissom, pastor and Rev. Scott Wilkinson former pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church c/o Bobby Brewer, P.O. Box 58, Yanceyville, NC 27379 or to Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. Harrelson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Caswell County, August 29, 1921, to W. P. and Annie Gunn Aldridge. He was a building contractor, building many homes in this area. He was also a licensed electrician. He was in the grocery business for many years, he worked with the West Yanceyville Water Works. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He worked many hours for his church at no charge. He worked with the Boy Scouts of his church also. Surviving is his wife Dorothy Hicks Aldridge of the home and numerous nieces and nephews.
