    • A memorial service for Preston (Pete) Satterfield III, 66 of 195 Westover Dr., who died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 15, in Lea’s Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Carr. Mr. Satterfield was a native of Person County, the son of the late Thelma Alderman and Preston Satterfield Jr. His late brother was Jim Satterfield. He was a past president and owner of Roxboro Concrete Services Inc.

      A graduate of N.C. State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Mr. Satterfield also was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. A member of Lea’s Chapel United Methodist Church, he and Ben Lacy Rose were the authors of a book on the history of Lea’s Chapel UMC, titled Chapel on South Hyco. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Military Order of Stars & Bars, Person County Masonic Lodge 113 AF & AM, and the Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow within Rotary International. And he was a past chairman of the Person County Economic Development Commission.

      Surviving are his wife, Jan Newell Satterfield; a son Preston (Perry) Satterfield IV of Cary; a daughter, Jennifer S. Phillips of Oxford; and three grandchildren, Caroline Phillips, Michael Phillips and Troy Satterfield.

      Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Carter, Bob Norris, Scott Phillips, David Satterfield, Reg Carr, Tim O’Briant, Ken Hawkins, James Woody, Jason Royster and Wayne Winstead. Memorials may be made to Lea’s Chapel UMC, 191 Blalock Dairy Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573 or the National MS Society, 3101 Industrial Dr., Suite 210, Raleigh, NC 27609.
