Ruby Pleasant Chandler , of 1111 Main Street, Stratford House, died Monday evening, June 1, 2009 at Stratford Health Care. She was born on May 3, 1918, in Purley, NC, a daughter of John Pleasant and Irma Davis Pleasant. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard P. Chandler on August 16, 1985. Mrs. Chandler worked for a number of years at Thalhimers Department Store until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Donald L. Chandler and his wife, Susie of Alexandria, VA and John P. Chandler and his wife, Brenda of Raleigh, NC. , four grandchildren, Donald L. Chandler, Jr. and his wife, Kathi of Marietta, GA, David N. Chandler of Alexandria, VA, Elizabeth Hockaday and her husband, Josh of Fuquay Varina, NC and John David Chandler of Raleigh, NC, two great-grandchildren, Cohen Alexander Hockaday and Liam Hayes Hockaday, and a brother John Miller Pleasant and his wife, Mabel of Purley, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barry Foster officiating. Burial will be in Purley United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Chandler Family.
