Columbus, Georgia - Robert Kennon Chandler, 84, of Columbus, formerly of Albany, died Monday, January 16, 2006, at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2006, in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Chandler lived and worked most of his adult life in insurance sales and sales management in the Albany and Columbus Georgia areas. He and his wife, Ruth, deceased raised three children. Mr. Chandler was born and raised in Caswell County, NC.
For three years, he was active in the Army in the European Theater of Operation (ETO), a veteran of World War Two, having participated in five major battles, 14 days after D-Day in June 1944. An active member of the American Legion. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his two sons, David E. and Robert A. Chandler and his daughter, Rita Chandler Jones, all of living in the Columbus, GA, area; two grandchildren, Ginny and Kennon Flint Chandler; a sister, Elizabeth Plumblee of Burlington, NC.
