Above is an interesting Caswell County document kindly shared by a Strader family researcher. It is the 1857 tax report. Christian Strader is shown as Caswell County Sheriff because at the time the sheriff collected taxes. Christian Strader served as Caswell County Sheriff 1856-1860. Note some of the interesting items taxed. Note also the poll tax (tax on heads or individuals) generated the largest amount of state tax.
Why total Caswell County acreage is shown as only 262,005 is not totally understood. Today we know the total acreage of the county is 273,920. Perhaps this was due to inaccurate surveys at the time. It also may be the total acreage shown excludes certain non-taxable land owned by churches (including cemeteries) and the government. However, note that certain "Town Property" was taxed.

Notes for Christian Strader: Christian Strader served as Sheriff of Caswell County, 1856-1860. Christian and Evelina had children but this family died out with no further descendants.

i. Patience Elizabeth Frances Strader, born July 26, 1847 in Pelham , Caswell Co., NC; died June 13, 1914 in Pelham, Caswell Co., NC. The 1900 census stated that Patience had no children. However the 1880 census lists one child.
ii. Henry T. Strader, born February 1850 in Pelham , Caswell Co., NC (Source: 1850 Census, Caswell Co., N.C.); died Abt. 1860 in Pelham , Caswell Co., NC.
iii. Thomas J. Strader, born September 30, 1851 in Pelham, Caswell Co., NC; died November 18, 1911 in Pelham, Caswell Co., NC. He married Josephine Daniel December 26, 1875 in Pelham, Caswell Co., NC; born Abt. 1852 in Pelham, Caswell Co., NC; died Aft. June 1920.
Notes for Thomas J. Strader: It is not certain that Thomas was the son of Christian and Evelina Strader. Census records indicate the father of Thomas was born in Kentucky. However the census below lists Evelina as his mother.

Julia F. Burns was born Abt. 1824 in Caswell Co., NC, and died Abt. 1847 in Rockingham Co., NC. She married Christopher G. Terry May 20, 1844 in Caswell Co., NC, son of John Terry and Sarah Hodnett.
