Note that Allen Hatchett Gwyn inherited from his Aunt Mattie Hatchett Womack Allison the substantial Yancey-Womack property that she owned, which included the Bartlett Yancey, Jr. house and surrounding acreage. Allen Hatchett Gwyn and Janie Johnston Gwyn eventually sold the property to Eugene Aldridge of the West Yanceyville (Caswell Community). Part of the property was donated by Eugene Aldridge to create the parcel on which the new N. L. Dillard Middle School was build on Highway 158 just west of Yanceyville. The address of the school is 255 Hatchett Road, Yanceyville, North Carolina.
The Bartlett Yancey, Jr. house and surrounding property (included in the assets willed to Allen Hatchett Gwyn by Mattie Hatchett Womack) went through several owners, including Les and Carole Strader, who did major renovations to the house, before becoming the property of the present owners, Mike and Lucindy Willis, who now operate the building as the Yancey House Restaurant.

Another midcentury form that Milton cabinetmaker Thomas Day interpreted in a lively fashion is the pier table. These were often made in sets of two and placed in the parlor niches then popular in many homes. As the pier table form grew in popularity, Day took liberties with the standard urban design. He made a set of two tables with pier mirrors for the Gwyn family of Caswell County between 1853 and 1860. The Gwynn (also seen as Gwyn) family had been in Caswell County for quite some time. One member, Littleton Gwyn served the county as a state representative and helped sponsor the 1830 petition to bring Aguilla Wilson Day into the state. This particular set of pier tables came from the estate of Judge Allen Gwyn, Reidsville, Rockingham County. The description applies to both sets.

Consider the possibility that the pier tables obtained from the estate of Judge Allen Hatchett Gwynn were made by Thomas Day for the owners of the Bartlett Yancey House.
_______________
Allen Hatchett Gwyn, lawyer and judge, was born near Yanceyville, Caswell County, the son of Joseph P. and Sarah E. Hatchett Gwyn. Gwyn attended the Yanceyville graded school and received the A.B. degree from Trinity College, Durham, in 1913. After serving as a private and second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1917 to 1919, he entered the Trinity College law school where he was graduated in 1921. Gwyn practiced law in Reidsville from 1921 until 1938. During that time he served as city attorney (1927-38), as a Democrat from the Seventeenth Senatorial District in the state senate (1931-33), and as solicitor for the superior court of the Seventeenth Judicial District (1934-38). From 1939 until his death he was a judge of the superior court.
Judge Gwyn's work-release program was a major contribution to criminal law. His efforts to lower the high percentage of first offenders who served time in prison for twelve months or less led to effective work-release legislation. Gwyn's views and findings on the program appear in his book, Observations on Crime and Correction: Work, Earn, and Save, published in 1963.
At various times, Gwyn was an instructor at the National College of State Trial Judges and at the Institute of Government of The University of North Carolina. He served on the State Commission on Probation from 1961 to 1965 and was a member of the Governor's Committee on Juvenile Delinquency and Youth Crime from 1962 to 1964. In 1967-68, he served as president of the North Carolina Superior Court Judges.
Gwyn married Janie Johnston of Yanceyville on 25 Apr. 1917, and they had three children: Anne Russell, Allen, Jr., and Julius. He was a member of the Methodist church and the Masonic order. Judge Gwyn died in Greensboro and was buried in Reidlawn Cemetery, Reidsville

World War I Memorial Dedicated in Yanceyville 1929
"A large number of people gathered in the public square at 3 o'clock to pay a permanent tribute to the Caswell men who while bearing arms for the nation died during the World war. A granite rock has been placed in the square and on it is a copper plate bearing the names of 16 men who gave their lives. There was a large turnout for the event and the ceremony was impressive. Allen Gwynn of Reidsville, himself a service man making the address. The memorial is not far from another, commemorating Caswell's part in the Civil war and it is near the German machine gun which Caswell secured as a war trophy."
