  Louisa Henderson (1825-1905) The Biloxi Daily Herald Obituary of Louisa Henderson GLENN Date: August 30 1905 Newspaper published in: Biloxi,MS Page/Column: 4/3 After a long, and beautiful life of Christian patience and fortitude, Louisa Henderson GLENN entered into her promised rest Aug. 24, 1905. She was born at Milton, N.C., March 12, 1825, the daughter of Alexander Martin HENDERSON and his wife, Mary WADE. Alexander HENDERSON, was the son of Thomas and Jane (MARTIN) HENDERSON, and was named for his mother's brother, Alexander MARTIN, Governor of North Carolina, and heired everything Gov. MARTIN owned--houses, lands, furniture, etc. Thomas HENDERSON, the secretary of Gov. MARTIN, was the son of Samuel HENDERSON, who at an early date moved from Hanover county, Virginia to North Carolina. It would be hard to find a family that has left their impress upon a state as has this HENDERSON family; distinguished for their great legal ability and integrity, they passed into history. Left an orphan in early life, Louisa HENDERSON became an inmate of the family of her brother-in-law, Judge Joseph W. CHALMERS, of Holly Springs, Miss., where her girlhood was spent. From the home of another brother-in-law, Dr. DALTON, of Aberdeen, Miss., she was married to Archibald GLENN, who was born in Halifax, Va., but when a young man located in New Orleans, La., where he amassed a large fortune. He died there, leaving his widow with three sons and three daughters. Of these sons, Alexander HENDERSON died in early manhood. When quite a young married woman Mrs. GLENN took charge of the young orphaned son of her sister, Mrs. CHALMERS. This adopted son was one of the three CHALMERS brothers so well known in Mississippi. (Judge CHALMERS of Jackson, Miss., Gen. J. R. CHALMERS of Memphis and Col. Alexander Henderson CHALMERS), and nobly he repaid her for the mother's care and love. The last years of Mrs. GLENN's life have been divided between her children--Mrs. J. H. JENKINS and Archibald GLENN of Memphis and Mrs. Stephen W. TAYLOR of New Orleans. Another son survives his mother, David Chalmers GLENN, a resident of Houston, Tex., also a daughter, Miss Katherine Henderson GLENN, whose life has been devoted to the mother, whose years of beautiful symmetry called forth the highest tribute from children, grand-children and friends. And so, after more than eighty years, in which the overcoming of self gave an unusual poise and dignity--that was so sweetly tempered with love and gentleness--she has now awakened in his likeness and is satisfied.
