      Staunton, Virginia - Mark Daniel Finch Jr., 86, widower of Eldridge (Ellis) Finch, of 320 Baldwin Drive, Staunton, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Danville, the son of Mark Daniel Finch Sr. and Selma Lee (Reynolds) Finch. Mr. Finch was a veteran of the U.S. Army; he served during World War II. He had been an agent with State Farm Insurance for 59 years and was past district manager. He was a graduate of the College of Life Underwriters. He was past president of the Lions club and the American Cancer Society, he was a Mason, he served on Staunton City Council and was past chairman of the local Republican Party. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 54 years.

      Family members include five daughters and sons-in-law, Lee and Louis P. Campbell of White Plains, Md., Elizabeth and Steve Wisely, Jane and Clay Wisely, Robin and David Reed and Ruth and Steve Hall, all of Staunton; a sister, Katherine Watlington of Yanceyville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren, Kelly Campbell, Mark Hall and his wife, Emily, Corey and Lindsay Reed and Lauren, Ellis and Eldridge Wisely. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Finch. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Wade Munford. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be State Farm agents. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, in Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1 Morton Drive, Suite 106, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
