Widow's Application For Confederate Pension: Alice Finley Henderson applied 25 June 1927. Although she declared property whose tax value was about $3,000, a Class B pension nevertheless was approved: "We find that this applicant owns more than $2000. worth of property but the income therefrom is not sufficient for a support." She stated that her husband, Archibald Erskine Henderson, enlisted July 1, 1861, in Granville County, Company B, 12th Regiment."

"Col. A. E. Henderson left town [Yanceyville] Saturday for Chapel Hill. He is in attendance upon the reunion of the class of 1861 and 1862, and will receive a diploma of honor from the University which is being given to that class which laid down its books in 1861 to take up arms in the ranks of Lee."

Col. A. E. Henderson is Archibald Erskine Henderson (1843-1918). While he apparently did serve in the Confederate States of America army during the Civil War, the "Colonel" title has nothing to do with that service, being "honorary" in nature.
