Entertainment for the senior class was provided at the Yanceyville home of "Mr. and Mrs. Upchurch." While not confirmed, this probably was local lawyer Ernest Frederick Upchurch (1877-1960) and Mary Constance Stroupe Upchurch (1882-1968).
Winners of the "flower contest" were: James Slade; Esther Moorefield; Annie Hatchett; Carmine Poteat; and Edna Goodson.

Ester L. Moorefield married Samuel Earl Lea of Danville, Virginia. Her book of poetry, The Heart Whispers, was well received when published in 1964. In ____, she was named Poet of the Year by the Maryland State Poetry Society.
Mrs. Lea Named Poet of Year
Esther Moorefield Lea has been named Poet of the Year by the Maryland State Poetry Society. Mrs. Lea's husband, Earl, accepted the award in her behalf at a recent Poetry Day Luncheon in the Sheraton Belevdere Hotel in Baltimore. Mrs. Lea, unable to be present because of a recent operation, sent a letter of thanks in which she said she was "deeply grateful for the honor bestowed upon me and feel that I am not deserving of it, but will try to be in the future." Mrs. Lea has published a book of poems, "The Heart Whispers," and is working on two other books. One is an illustrated children's book and the other is a book of poems that bears the title "The Journey."

She was named Poet of the Year by the Maryland State Poetry Society. At the time Vincent Godfrey Burns was Maryland Poet Laureate.
In 1937, Samuel Earl Lea was an agent for Mutual Insurancy Agency, living with wife Esther Moorefield Lea at 434 West Main Street in Danville, Virginia.

Esther True Moorefield Lea (1906-1999) completed at least fifty paintings, including:
1. "Family Pet" - a small picture of a horse.
2. "Pink Ocean" - a lovely seascape.
3. "Lombardies" - a garden that contains two tall Lombardy poplars.
4. "Grecian Columns" - a formal garden aglow.
5. "Serenity" - vista of a peaceful valley.
6. "Fury of the Sea" - shows great breakers beating on a red reef.
7. "The Firebird" - an abstract painting of a wild bird in flight.
8. "Ocean" - shows a long stretch of beach with breakers under a waning moon.
9. "Horizon" - a view of the western Rockies.
10. "Laguna Beach" - reveals the blue waters of a cove on a California beach.
11. "Sound and Silence" - an ethereal reproduction of one of nature's many moods.
12. "Spring" - brings to life the burgeoning colors and rich tints of Springtime.
