_______________
Third Photograph: Violet Lillian Hayes and Mildred Mabel Hayes.
Based upon the birth record of her sister, Mildred Mabel Hayes, the parents of Violet Lillian Hayes apparently are Daniel Murray Hayes and Nancy McKeithan Hayes. Found in the Index to Vital Statistics for Robeson County, North Carolina (Volume 1917, Page 532), is an entry for a white female born 12 January 1917 to Dan M. Hayes and Nancy McKeithan Hayes. No name is provided for the child. Based upon the 1930 US Federal Census, Violet Lillian Hayes was born around 1917 in North Carolina. Thus, the daughter born 12 January 1917 to Daniel M. Hayes and Nancy McKeithan Hayes may indeed be Violet Lillian Hayes, and that working assumption is made here.
On 27 January 1939, D. M. and Nancy Hayes were residents of Whiteville, North Carolina. Their daughter, Violet Lillian Hayes, was a resident of Roxboro, North Carolina. What she was doing in Roxboro is unknown; however, she apparently was a nurse, and she may have followed her profession there. Source: Marriage License (Roxboro, Person County, North Carolina) for William Ransom Frederick and Violet Lillian Hayes and the personal knowledge of Richmond Stanfield Frederick, Jr.. At some point Violet Lillian Hayes nursed polio patients in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Violet Lillian Hayes Frederick was still a young woman (around twenty-seven years old) when her first husband was killed during World War II (September 1944). The couple had no living children, and Violet apparently remarried a Spears. However, the full name of her second husband is unknown.

_______________
Whether the following newspaper account of an apparent suicide is with respect to the Violet Lillian Hayes of this entry has not been confirmed and is placed here for research purposes only. The suicide victim in the article is described as 26 years old and having come to Miami from Ottawa, Kansas. This would give a birth year of around 1921, which is not consistent with a 1917 birth year attributed to the Violet Lillian Hayes of this record. Nor is she know to have had an association with Ottawa, Kansas. However, see the newspaper account below with respect to the death of a Violet Lillian (Hayes) Daylong in Olathe, Kansas (which is only 33 miles from Ottawa, Kansas).
Nurse's Death Termed Suicide
Police yesterday described as apparent suicide the death of Violet H. Spears, 26-year-old nurse, found dead in her bed at 331 NE 22nd st., by a roommate. Sgt. John L. Deas, head of the homicide bureau, said indications were that the nurse had taken her own life and that there would be no inquest. Policemen N. C. Coplin and E. G. Smith, Jr., said they found two notes, one a love note, the other giving instructions as to burial arrangements.
Marian Kane, who found the nurse, told Dr. William L. Wagner, of Coral Gables, that she returned home at 2 a.m. and found her friend in a stupor, but thought she had taken a sleep tablet, and went to bed. When she awakened at 8 a.m. she found the girl dead. Dr. Wagner said he found a quantity of sleeping pills and other drugs in the dead girl's effects.
The body was released to the Lanier Funeral home, which was trying to locate relatives. The nurse came to Miami from Ottawa, Kans.
