  • Notes
    • The following was provided by a Page family historian based upon his review of US census records:

1850 US Census (Caswell County, North Carolina) (16-Dec-1850):
(All members of the family are shown as born in Caswell County, North Carolina, except as shown):

Page, Stephen 48, farmer, value of real estate owned $1200
Elizabeth, 49, born in Orange County NC. (maiden name Shepard/Sheppard/Shepherd)
Permelia F., 17, (daughter) (Permelia or Pamelia Frances?)

Shown as "next door" but still very much part of the Stephen Page family, were:

      Jas. B. 15 (James Bentley)
      Bedford J. 13, (Bedford Jackson)
      William W. 11 (William ____________)
Elizabeth S. 10 (Elizabeth Susan, becomes wife of Whitehead Page's son Daniel Jackson.)
Sheppard, Francis A. 69, born in Virginia (Almost certainly the mother of Stephen's wife Elizabeth.)
Foster, James M., 19. (One of the other Page wives of 1850 Caswell county was married to a Foster, If I recall correctly without pulling records. I think it might have been Celia.)

      Notes:

In the house just before Stephen Page's family was William Boswell 30 (31?) & Lucinda 29 with 4 children. William Boswell married Lucinda Page bond date 19 Dec1837 Caswell Co, bondsman James P. Page. Lucinda might have been mentioned in Whitehead Page's will and/or Daniel Jackson's administration of his younger brother Stephen's death and estate -- I'm sure I have seen her somewhere among the Page records.

In the dwelling just after Stephen Page's younger children, was Richard Gunn 63 born in Virginia, with wife Susan Gunn 61 born in NC, and no others in their household. But in the next dwelling after them was a John W. Gunn 32 with wife Martha J. 31, and 5 children, all including the parents shown born in Caswell county. One of John and Martha's children was Mary C. Gunn, age 10, who surely is the Mary C. Gunn who married James B. Page on bond date 15 Oct1865 in Caswell county NC, bondsman "B. J." Page, where "B.J." was almost certainly James B. Page's brother Bedford Jackson, both seen in the above 1850 census.

In the records, Elizabeth's maiden name can be seen as Shepherd, Shepard, Sheppard, possibly other variations.
