- Services for Eugene Fedric, 88, of Greenwood, who died of cancer on Friday, July 1, 2005, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 3 this afternoon at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Mr. Fedric was born on June 24, 1917 to Radford Jones and Lucy (Henry) Fedric in Glendora, Miss. He graduated from Mississippi State University, where he served as president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After college he spent five years with the United States Army in the European Theater of operations in World War II. After the war he returned to Glendora and operated his family farm until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Fedric was also a real estate broker and appraiser. He was very active in the community. His involvement included: director of the Farmers Cooperative Service in Sumner, president of the Midway Gin Co., director of Staplcotn Services Association, commissioner of the Mississippi-Yazoo Levee Board, director of the Glendora Lions Club and King of the Cotton Ball. Mr. Fedric was a lifelong member of the Glendora United Methodist Church, where he had served on the Board of Stewards.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Glover Fedric, and a daughter, Mary Anne Fedric Townes.
Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or the Garden Park Adult Day Care Center in Greenwood. He is survived by his spouse, Janette Keever Fedric of Greenwood; three daughters, Dena Fedric Adams of Glendora, Barbara Fedric Grissom and her husband, Terry, of Minter City, and Sharon Hawkins and her husband, Steve, of Starkville; two sons, Radford Jones Fedric and his wife, Cydney, of Clinton and William Merritt Sheppard Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The Rev. Gary Howse will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Vance, Sykes Sturdivant, Jimmy Fedric Flautt, Jack Flautt Jr. and grandsons Ashley Grissom, Radford Jones Fedric V, Eugene Chester Fedric II, Craig Hankins and David Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernard "Nutty" Moyer, Hal Pleasants, Mike Sturdivant, M.L. McMillan, Ralph Hand Jr., Jack Ford, T.C. Buford, Matt Dale Jr., Scott Warfield, Dr. Charles Nause and Edgar E. Smith. Visitation will be from 1 until the time of services today at the funeral home.
