Yanceyville, North Carolina - Cedric Clifton Jernigan, Sr., 81, of 44 Aldridge Road, died Monday December 27, 2010, at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1929, to the late Claude Jernigan and Lydia Jones Jernigan. Cedric lived in Yanceyville for over forty years and was a devoted member of Yanceyville Presbyterian Church.
He retired in 1995 as the Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealer of Yanceyville. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School 1949 and was voted best sport of his graduating class, he was captain of the 1948 AAA High School Championship Football Team, a team that many considered the best ever assembled in North Carolina, and one of his proudest accomplishments. Cedric graduated from Presbyterian College in 1953 and was an outstanding member of the Blue Hose football team and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and four brothers.
Survivors are wife Betty Jernigan of the home, sons Cliff Jernigan and wife Debra, Tim Jernigan and wife Catherine, daughters Faye McDaniel and husband Steve, and Leigh Fedash, brothers, Harold Jernigan of Greenville, South Carolina, and Glenn Jernigan of Fayetteville, grandchildren, Emily, Cedric, Caitlyn, Jake, Trent, Carly, Kennedi, Keaton, and James.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Yanceyville Presbyterian Church. The Family will receive friends at the church 1 p.m. Saturday. Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Jernigan family with arrangements.
