Yanceyville Fire Chief before World War II and possibly afterwards. He had a son named Johnny. Note uncertainty with respect to middle name (but middle name believed to be Ford).

Owned Harwood Cleaners in Yanceyville, Caswell County, North Carolina, in the 1950s.
      _______________

Johnny Ford Harwood, Yanceyville- Johnny Ford Harwood 39 of Yanceyville died m a Danville VA hospital Saturday A native of Stanly County he has been a resident of Yanceyville for the past 18 years. He was a foreman with the Caswell Knitting Mill. He was a member of the Caswell Brotherhood Masonic Lodge and the Yanceyville Methodist Church where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a m. The Rev David Clark and the Rev Otis Joyner will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery at Albemarle. He is survived by his wife the former Ruby Pickler, one son Johnny, Jr., of the home, two sisters, and six brothers.
      _______________

Johnny Harwood, Sr. (1917-1957), worked at Caswell Knitting Mill (Wall Street, Yanceyville, NC) and then owned and operated Harwood Dry Cleaners in Yanceyville. Yes, he died when only 39, suffering from kidney disease. Johnny, Jr., was 10 years old when his father died.

Both Johnny Harwood, Sr., and wife Ruby Helena Pickler Harwood (1918-1991) were from Albemarle, Stanly County, NC. And, that is where she died (New London). While I do not know, it is reasonable to assume Johnny, Jr., and she moved back to Albemarle/Stanly County, NC. Johnny, Jr., graduated from North Stanly High School (Beta Club, captain of the basketball team, etc.). The last I heard of him, he was living in Concord, NC.
      _______________

I am thinking my Dad may have been chief for a while - When I was very young, Robert Brooks lived beside the mill that he managed, Johnny Harwood lived beside him and we lived in the house on the corner beside of Johnny. Ray McGuire's family lived across the street from us. When the fire alarm sounded in the middle of the night, all the families would gather outside to determine the direction of the fire truck - Great childhood memories:)
