  Raleigh Massey (click on thumbnail for larger image) _______________ Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Massey, wife of J. A. Massey [John Abner Massey], of Yanceyville, died Friday night at a Danville hospital from a complication of diseases. She was 30 years of age and a daughter of James Rudd, of Yanceyville, where the remains were interred Sunday. The Reidsville Review (Reidsville, North Carolina), 30 March 1920. What the death notice fails to state is that she left six children and may have died as a result of giving birth to the last: James Levie Massey (March 21, 2020 - July 10, 1938). Another of these children, Edna Earle Massey (1910-2007), married Yanceyville banker Earl Jones Smith (1910-1985). And, Laura Elizabeth Rudd Massey was not buried in Yanceyville. She rests at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church, Caswell County, North Carolina. Here is a very poor image of Laura Elizabeth Rudd Massey with oldest child, son Raleigh Massey, who lived a short time (1906-1907). While inferior quality, it is the only known photograph of her.
