"Another topic altogether and personal. On returning from a cruise I learned that my sister-in-law, Catherine Scott Gentry, had passed away. I mention this because I think there are many of you in Caswell County will remember her. She was a beautiful young woman, and even more beautiful as she aged. She was 93 years old, and remarkable in many ways. Beloved by her family, she was an outstanding role model for all of us who knew her. She was the very last member of her generation -- a large family of descendants of Grandma and Grandpa Lea, a group of at least three generations who gathered on Sundays, children and grandchildren, a custom almost entirely gone. All the cousins were nearly as close to each other as to their own siblings. Catherine felt keenly that she was the last of that clan. And she included me in it, as the widow of John Scott, her brother. I guess she was right. She had been a widow for many years, but the matriarch of
her family of three daughters and their families. Already I miss her greatly. We spent a lot of time together, and spoke the same language. Our conversations covered time that our younger families did not understand
or know. May she rest in peace."

"On Wednesday we gathered to celebrate the life of Catherine Scott Gentry, my sister-in-law, and a true sister of the heart. She was bright and cute and funny. At 93 she never lost her talent for a fast quip. Two of her granddaughters spoke at her funeral, and talked about that as well as her abiding faith in God that she shared always with her family. She was a role model for all of us."
