Providence, NC-William C. "Bill" Myers of 150 Park Springs Road, died at his home on Friday, October 13, 2006. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, and friend, a kind and honest man, loved by all.
Born June 21, 1922, in Lenoir City TN., Mr. Myers was the son of Sherman and Vernie Hill Myers. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a combat air crewman, taking part in the invasion of North Africa, and was stationed in Japan after the war ended. He was the recipient of the following medals: American Defense-American Area (European Area), Asiatic Pacific Area, Victory WWII, and Good Conduct. He also had one star on aircrew wings.
Mr. Myers was a member of Community Baptist Church, a former member of Shady Oak Baptist Church, and was currently active in God's Grace Baptist Church in Yanceyville, NC. He was also a member of the Gideon's International and a life member of VFW Post 7316.
He retired from Durham Hosiery Mill in 1987 as Assistant Plant Manager with 30 years of service.
Mr. Myers is survived by his wife, Betty Green Myers of the home, daughter Sherri Heath of Danville, Va. and beloved canine companion, Elmo. Other survivors include one sister, Jewel Ault of Knoxville, Tennessee and brothers, Gordon Myers, Curtis Myers, and Vonnie Myers, all of Lenoir City, Tennessee. He was predeceased by a grandson, William Alexander Heath, two brothers, J. D. Myers of Iowa and Albert Myers of Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, October 16th at Shady Oak Baptist Church on Walters Mill Road, with Pastors Wayne Jones and James Mayes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 7316.
The family will receive friends at Harrelson Funeral Home Sunday, October 15th from 7:00 until 8:30 pm and at other times will be at the home on Park Springs Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 1411 Yanceyville, NC 27379. Harrelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
