J. J. Foster
Ruffin N. C. Jan 20 (1933) In the presence of one of the largest gathering of friends and relatives ever assembled at Bethesda Presbyterian church, the body of J. J. Foster, one of Caswell county's best known farmers was laid to rest in the church cemetery Thursday evening at 2 p.m.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Roy Whitley of Bethesda church and Elder J. J. Stanfield of the Primitive Baptist church. Both ministers paid beautiful tributes to Mr. Foster as a neighbor and friend to all in every walk of life, both white and colored, rich and poor alike when in need. The large crowd that stood in the aisles of the church and stood with out with bowed heads in respect testified to as to his many friends. Some 30 odd colored men and women who lived on his farm filed down the isle of the church to view the remains at the close of the service.
Mr. Foster was a man of 55 years and survived by his wife and six children - Nellie, Elizabeth and Lillian Foster, James, Henry and Harrelson Foster of Ruffin; two brothers, Oscar and Boss Foster, and a sister, Mrs. Walker of near Yanceyville.
The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased - Douglas and Marion Foster, Russel and Lindsey Neighbors, Philman, Joseph and Buster Harrelson and Mr. Robertson.
The flowers bearers were his nieces - Dorothy and Elizabeth Foster, Nettie Neighbors, Frances, Geneva, Helen and Mildred Harrelson.
