- Roger Anderson, age 79, passed away Tuesday November 13, 2018 in Wilmington, NC, due to cancer. Born in Durham, NC, on June 9, 1939, he was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Myrtle Smith Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vicki Wall Anderson of Wilmington, NC; children Slade Anderson of San Jose, CA, Theresa (William) Cozart of Wilmington, NC, and Andrea Anderson (Brian Allen) of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren Summer and Ethan Anderson of San Jose, CA and Abigail and Jonathan Cozart of Wilmington, NC; brother Kenneth Anderson of Jacksonville, FL, sister Mary A. Leggette of Durham, NC, sister Bird A. Baldwin of Pine Bluffs, WY, and sister-in-law Christina S. Anderson of Durham, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Q. Anderson and sister Joan A. DeHart. He was the grandson of George Andrew Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Slade Anderson of Caswell County, NC.
Roger graduated from Durham High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1962, aboard the U.S.S. Vogelgesang DD-862 from 1958-1961 as an electronics technician. Following his service in the Navy, he worked as a radio communications technician and manager of the Raleigh office of Piedmont Communications Company until his retirement. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed researching his family’s history, as well as studying ancient Egypt. His first love, however, was his wife Vicki as well as his children and grandchildren. A small gathering for family and friends was held at Andrews Valley Chapel in Wilmington, NC on November 17, 2018.
