Geneva Clayton Williamson, 97, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was born on October 26, 1919 in Caswell County NC. She was one of six children born to Leona Moorefield Clayton and George Lea Clayton and was married to the late Lynn Banks Williamson who died in 1987. She and Lynn lived most of their married lives in the Locust Hill community except for time spent in Kinston, NC from 1959 to 1976 after which they moved back to their farm in Caswell County. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and her door was always open for anyone to drop in for one of her home cooked meals. She worked hard putting up food every summer from her big garden and some of her fondest memories where being surrounded by her family shucking corn and stringing beans. Of course, her hand cranked ice cream always followed the work.
Geneva was a member of the VFW Auxillary and Homemakers Club. She was a life- long member of Locust Hill United Methodist Church and served as President of United Methodist Women, active choir member and Sunday school teacher. Early on in her life she worked as a beautician and that skill followed her throughout her life with her "girls."
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers , Elwood and Julius Lee Clayton; sisters, Ercell Satterfield and Leona Cobb.
Geneva is survived by her 4 children; Jerry (Kitty) Williamson of Greensboro, NC; Pat (Ralph) Dail and George (Scarlet) Williamson of Caswell County; Lisa (Scott) Heath of Kinston, NC: eight grandchildren; April (Bishow) Adhikari, David (Kim) Dail, Brad (Jane) Williamson , Beth (Sam) Clowney , Sally(Jordan) Hodges , Emily (Michael) Reagan, Megan Heath and Morgan (Sam) Myers; 10 great grandchildren and her close surviving sister, Helen Somers of Reidsville, NC. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her special caregivers Robin Cobb, Brenda Williamson and Barbara Saunders for their devotion and care during her years of declining health. Also a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their kindness and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM Friday, March 31,2017 at Locust Hill United Methodist Church, 281 Stoney Creek School Road, Reidsville, NC 27320; Pastor Jason Gaskin officiating; burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church starting at 12 noon prior to the service and at other times at the home of her daughter Pat Dail.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or Locust Hill United Methodist Church c/o Mitch Foster, 1841 Bethesda Church Rd, Ruffin, NC 27326. Funeral arrangements are being made through Harrelson Funeral Home in Yanceyville, NC.
