      Mr. Julius Lee Clayton, 97, of 3724 Shady Grove Road, Providence, N.C. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 2, 2015, after being in declining health for the past three weeks. Mr. Clayton was born in the Leasburg Community of Caswell County on January 20, 1918, a son to the late George Lee Clayton and Leona Moorefield Clayton. He had lived his entire life in Caswell County where he had retired from the Caswell County School System. Mr. Clayton had taught school and served as Principal for Cobb, Dillard, and Bartlett Yancey Elementary Schools for 34 years. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday school and was a choir member. He was a member of the United Methodist Men Group, and a member of the Cobb Ruritan Club. Mr. Clayton served stateside during World War II as a pilot for U.S. Air Force.

      On June 29, 1949 he married Anne McDowell Clayton who died on October 12, 2009. Mr. Clayton is survived by one son, Bruce M. Clayton and wife, Stephanie, of Yanceyville, N.C.; two daughters, Lee Anne C. Johnson and husband, Steve, and Julie C. Underwood and husband, Kenneth, all of Providence, N.C.; and two sisters, Geneva C. Williamson of Yanceyville, N.C., and Helen C. Somers of Reidsville, N.C. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Stuart Clayton and wife, Lesley, Jeremy Johnson, Clayton Johnson and wife, Jordan, and Katie Underwood; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Clayton. He was predeceased by his wife; one brother, Elwood Clayton; and two sisters, Ercell C. Satterfield and Leona C. Cobb.

      The family would like to thank Mr. Clayton's caregivers, Dorothy Galloway, Brenda Winn, Edna Miller, Carol Foster, and Barbara Hovatter James, and a special thank you to Paul and Tillie Underwood and Mary Beth Wright. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 3 p.m. from the Shady Grove United Methodist Church by the Reverend James Kim and the Reverend Butch Huffman. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the church and at other times they will be at the residence, 3724 Shady Grove Road, Providence, NC 27315. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 1781 Shady Grove Road, Providence, NC 27315.
