At one time owned and lived on a farm in Blanch, North Carolina, that eventually was sold to Herman A. Smith (1894-1950) who married Katherine Allen (1893-1960). Sandy and Blanche Moore then moved to Yanceyville to a house on East Main Street across from what now is the Gunn Memorial Public Library. This building was operated as a boarding house and now is owned by Frank James Moorefield.
Thomas Coleman Walters was died in the Civil War at Sussex Courthouse, Virginia, 10 December 1864. When Thomas Coleman Walters was killed John Green Lea made sure that the body was transported back to Caswell County for burial at "North Bend." Lea also gave Thomas's sword to his mother, Katherine Coleman Walters. The Walters family is in possession of a letter written for John Green Lea by his second wife Mildred in which he describes how Thomas Coleman Walters was killed. Apparently, Thomas Coleman Walters was on a horse just in front of Lea at the time. The letter was writen to Charles Stephen Walters, brother of Thomas Coleman Walters. John Green Lea was an honorary pall bearer at the funeral of John Ferdinand Walters, as was Sandy Banks Moore.
_______________
On April 28, 1922, Alexander Banks (Sandy) Moore was the defendant in a preliminary hearing held before a magistrates' court in Yanceyville, Caswell County, North Carolina. Moore was charged with running over with his motor vehicle and killing 18-month-old Christine Dix, daughter of Hurley Dix, of Purley, Caswell County, North Carolina. Probable cause was found to charge Moore with involuntary manslaughter, and the defendant was bound over to the August term of Superior Court for trial. Bond of $2,000 was set and posted.
A preliminary hearing also was held with respect to the charge of assault in connection with the same case, the assault allegedly against Miss Annie Weadon, who was carrying the child killed. Probable cause was found, and the defendant bound over to the August term of Superior Court. Bond of $500 was set and posted.
Charges against Charlie Mitchell, a passenger in the Moore car, were dropped.
The presiding magistrates were T. H. Hatchett, Arch Thomas, and B. S. Graves.
