      _______________

Montrose Staton Angle and Lois Threatte Bass lived in Milton, North Carolina, where they were active in the Milton Presbyterian Church (he an elder). He labored many years in the construction business and in his spare time refinished furniture, repaired clocks and guns and could be found in his basement shop most anytime. He served as Mayor of Milton for 16 years. Served as a Magistrate in Yanceyville, North Carolina.

      M. S. Angle served as Mayor of Milton for 16 years to about 1970. During his term as mayor many improvements were made in Milton, including installation of the water system, the telephone system and wheels set in motion for the erection of the dual lane bridge across Dan River, scheduled for completion in mid-1976. Angle is currently serving as Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Milton. Source: Milton, North Carolina: Sidelights of History, Charles B. Motley (1976) at 91.

A fourth lounge made by Milton cabinetmaker Thomas Day descended through the Bass family and likely was made about the same time as lounges were made for the Kerr family and for the Richmond-Wilson-Cunningham house (probably 1845-1844). The last private owner, Montrose S. Angle, mayor of Milton, North Carolina, during the 1950s and 1960s, told researcher Tony Wrenn in 1972 that the "Day Bed" descended to his wife from a family member he identified as a Mr. R. B. Bass. Source: em>Thomas Day: Master Craftsman and Free Man of Color, Patricia Phillips Marshall and Jo Ramsay Leimenstoll (2010) at 104-105, and 239 (footntote 87). The Day lounge once owned by Montrose Staton Angle now is in the collection of the North Carolina Museum of History.

Note that the author of the foregoing failed to recognize that Montrose Staton Angle was married to Lois Threatte Bass, and her father is Robert B. Bass.
