  Charles Douglas Smith, Jr. (1950-2007) Charles Douglas Smith, Jr., 56, of 985 Cedar Road, died Monday, July 30, 2007, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past two years. Born Nov. 16, 1950, in Reidsville, N.C., he was the son of Charles Douglas Smith, Sr. and the late Carrie Walker Smith. He had lived in the Ringgold community for more than 20 years. He retired from Owens-Brockway Glass Containers Division of Owens Illinois, Inc., where he worked as a machinist with 28 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Mountain Hill Hunting Club. He was of the Baptist faith. He served with the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He married Ann Haymore Smith on June 14, 1969. In addition to his wife, of the residence, and his father, he is survived by two daughters, Stephanie S. Evans of Greensboro, N.C., and Jennifer S. McDonough of Richmond; two sisters, Ramona S. Supensky of Danville, and Sheila S. Barker, of Yanceyville, N.C.; and three grandchildren. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Stephen Wright officiating. Military honors will be given by American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, at Wrenn Yeatts Westover Chapel. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 2323 Riverside Drive, Suite J, Danville, VA 24540. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
