Robert Ross Fowlkes, 83, of 6222 US Highway 158 West, died Fri, Feb 28, 2003, at his residence. He was born Jun 20, 1919, in Caswell Co, NC, the son of Robert Jennings Fowlkes and Nancey Williamson Martin Fowlkes. He was retired from Jefferson Standard Insurance Company after 16 years; he was a tobacco and cattle farmer and was a member of Locust Hill United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Fowlkes was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Worsham Fowlkes. He is survived by two daughters, Martha Fowlkes Carter of Yanceyville, NC and Carol Fowlkes Poteat and husband, Julian of Yanceyville, NC; three grandchildren, David Ross Carter, Jennifer Elizabeth Carter and Lauren Caroline Poteat; one great-grandchild, David Jackson Carter; two sisters, Frances F. Smith of Blanch, NC and Nancey F. Patterson of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Richard J. Fowlkes of Yanceyville, NC. and Franklin Douglas Fowlkes of Blanch, NC.
